WRQ finds fault with Citrix NT server package

US-based WRQ Software has exposed serious shortcomings in Citrix' server product that could result in huge damage to users' networks.

Last month, WRQ signed an agreement with Citrix to bundle its Reflection software with the Citrix WinFrame thin client/ server software.

Rob Spence, WRQ product marketing manager, expressed concern about the WinFrame server. 'The NT server has a negative side in that if it goes down it stops the flow of information and disables the network.'

It was this capacity to disable an entire network that sounded alarm bells. According to Spence, the problems stem from the fact that the box sits at the central point between the host and the client. 'We are looking at developing clustering and also introducing mirroring to address this problem,' he said.

Jane Rimmer regional marketing manager at Citrix, said: 'We have neither mirroring nor clustering because we have developed a load bearing option, so if one server goes down the network can log into a secondary server.
