Transcend's growth plans
Memory vendor is hoping its channel partners will help it maximise growth in the UK
Memory vendor Transcend Information has revealed aggressive growth targets for its UK business next year and is looking to the channel to help it achieve them.
Adrian Hedges, national UK account manager at Transcend, told CRN: "We'd been operating across Europe with an office in the Netherlands for about 10 years and had a presence in the UK via distributor Actebis, but in 2005 Transcend decided to open a UK office. Unfortunately it was situated on the site of the Buncefield oil distribution depot which blew up last December. We have finally opened a new office in Hemel Hempstead and now have eight staff in the UK."
"We should achieve £3m turnover this year in the UK and our aim is to reach £20m next year, so we have massive growth planned," he said, adding the firm is looking to appoint several new distributors.
Transcend is looking to appoint several distributors to help it grow.
"We'd like to have two broadliners and two specialist distributors. We're in talks with Ingram and hope to appoint them soon; we're also in talks with Westcoast," said Hedges.
By the end of next year Transcend also plans to have 10 key account resellers and a reseller incentive programme in place.
"We are the only vendor that offers a lifetime guarantee on flash products and want to give resellers the tools to go out there and do their jobs. We want to get people recognising our brand name in the UK," added Hedges.
Ann Keefe, sales director UK and Ireland at rival memory vendor Kingston Technology, said: "Transcend has set themselves a very ambitious growth target for next year – it will be interesting to see how they do. It's such a competitive market now. We're doing well – around $100m turnover in the UK and are seeing year on year growth of around 25 per cent. Next year the mobile phone market is going to be a key growth area for us."
