Esteem buys its way into Oracle market

Sun and Oracle partners follow lead of their two vendor partners by tying the knot

New dawn: Sun partner Esteem wants to capitalise on the vendor's acquisition by Oracle through Midas deal

The Oracle-Sun Microsystems union has been mirrored in the UK channel with a deal between Esteem Systems and Midas IT Solutions.

Sun partner Esteem said the acquisition of Oracle services outfit Midas would “make the most of the significant opportunities” created by the two vendors' $7.4bn (£5.09bn) deal.

Joe Connolly, chief executive of Esteem, suggested the VAR was embracing Sun’s acquisition by Oracle – despite noises from Oracle executives that the software giant could cut Sun resellers out of the loop on large customers.

“Mapping Oracle’s thinking, we recognise the value of providing one point of contact and unified support across end-to-end solutions, and providing business benefits to end-users,” he said.

“We’re looking forward to working with them as we take on opportunities delivered through their acquisition of Sun Microsystems.”

Esteem is no stranger to the acquisition game having snapped up Scotland-based Access Computing in 2006, two years after its Primary Capital-backed management buyout in 2004.

Rob Thompson, managing director and founder of Midas, said: “This is a great move for Midas. Both companies are committed to providing the highest levels of customer service and technical expertise.

“I am sure the combined teams will be a powerful force in the Oracle market place.”
