Thieves raid memory distributor - again

Thieves have again targeted the Wiltshire-based storage facility of distributor Memory Plus in a failed attempt to steal memory.
The distributor's Wootton-Bassett warehouse had been targeted just three days before, when a masked gang bearing lump hammers and crowbars was foiled by a quick-thinking employee who caused them to panic and flee.
In the latest incident, the offenders, believed to be the same gang as before, destroyed an alarm box on site and security lighting around the warehouse, before having second thoughts and making their getaway, again empty-handed.
In June, more successful thieves made off with £60,000 of memory after hijacking a Memory Plus delivery truck.
David Flack, group marketing manager at Memory Plus, said the company is taking extra security measures in the wake of the latest attempt, and is expecting the gang to return.
"It seems like we are the number one target at the moment. We have no doubt that it is the same gang. They seem determined to get into our stores and we are sure they will be back," he said.
The company will move its stores to another secure area, Flack said, to help ensure the safety of staff and to try to deter the offenders.
"Unlike the last attempt, this took place at night and was not picked up on CCTV because they destroyed security lighting," he said.
"They also lifted up a manhole cover and cut off our fibre-optic telephone connections, so we had no phone lines the following day. They also cut off the phone system of a neighbouring company.
"The company does have a security consultant advising us at the moment to try to ensure that these people are as unsuccessful in future attempts as they have been in the past. We know they will be back, but hopefully, we will be prepared for them."
