Veritas extends Control to Microsoft platforms
SANpoint to support Windows 2000 and NT
Veritas Software has announced the latest edition of its SANpoint Control product, version 2.0, which adds Windows 2000 and NT to the supported platforms.
Version 2.0 allows network managers to organise the configuration and set-up of their storage area networks (Sans), and supports storage products from vendors including Hitachi, EMC, Compaq, IBM and Sun Microsystems.
"In a San environment there can be literally miles of space between a server and storage, so it is important for users to be able to visualise the network and see exactly what components are where," said Chris Boorman, enterprise marketing director at Veritas.
SANpoint Control was previously available only for Sun's Solaris platform. Boorman said there would be no conflict with Veritas' participation in the Veritas, Oracle, Sun (VOS) alliance, in which the vendor has agreed with Oracle and Sun to provide joint support for each other's products.
"We have worked with Microsoft in the past, and a number of our products are already available for the platform," he said. "The VOS agreement is a specific initiative, in which all vendors agree to provide joint support for each other's products if they are brought as a package."
SANpoint Control will be sold both directly by Veritas salespeople and by resellers, Boorman said, although he estimated that 60 to 70 per cent of all sales would go through the channel.
"People are increasingly becoming the limiting factor in a company's ability to manage storage growth. Storage management, therefore, must become part of a company's infrastructure," said John McArthur, vice president of storage research at IDC.
