Security vendor claims new email management anti-spam appliance will offer resellers extra margins

Resellers can make extra margins out of a new intelligent email management system that advances the task of spam filtering, vendor PineApp has claimed.

The problem for security resellers is that anti-spam products have become commodity items, argued Steve Cornish, UK sales and marketing director for PineApp. But spam is a growing problem for companies, which creates higher demand for the products, he said.

“We need to stay one step ahead to beat the spammers and increasingly sophisticated botnet threats,” he said. “As businesses communicate by email, we need to reclaim control of it before we can make commerce efficient and compliant.”

PineApp's rationale is that it is no longer enough just to block spam. Its latest Mail-Secure anti-spam appliances advance the cause of content management, it claimed, and introduces a new element, intelligent email routing.

Instead of just blocking spam, you should also route legitimate email to the most appropriate location based on content, argued Cornish. An email with a ‘CV’ or ‘job application’ subject header could be sent straight to HR.

There is a very real business problem that resellers can solve for clients, Cornish claimed. “Companies still worry about losing important emails because of their anti-spam measures,” says Cornish.

“By automatically analysing and making informed decisions on routing, we can cut this risk and add value to email systems instead of simply trying to close the door to spam. This creates a great opportunity for resellers to differentiate from their traditional ant-spam products.”
