Ingram seeks simplicity

Distributor movs to centralise and simplify its components business

Broadline distributor Ingram Micro Europe caused confusion last week by announcing the sale of its components business to another of its subsidiaries.

According to a statement, Ingram Micro Europe AG's components business was sold to Ingram Micro Components (Europe) GmbH for an undisclosed sum.

Ingram claimed the sale will help to "centralise" its components business and "simplify the business structure in Europe".

The firm also said Ingram Micro Europe AG will undergo a "restructuring process". A source close to the company told vnunet.com's sister title CRN that this meant legal restructuring rather than job cuts.

Rainer Kozlik, vice president components and private label Europe, said: "Our central European approach to the components market has proved to be an efficient business model for key manufacturers."

Bob Tarzey, service director at Quocirca, said: "The internal restructuring probably makes sense and will give the opportunity to shave costs. It is not clear whether it could mean job cuts but rationalisation often does."
