The company confirmed that the incident was caused by a faulty battery pack manufactured between 2 June and 10 July. Compaq also said that most of the affected machines were sold in Europe and the US.

The recalled battery packs can be identified by a date code and serial number on the white label to the right of the battery connector. The affected numbers are: TCGK 00001-10500, TCGK 20001-21800, TCGK 40001-83100 and TCHK 40001-44700.

Compaq said it will send out two replacement batteries for each recalled unit.
