SMC to hunt for network dealers

Networking vendor Standard Microsystems (SMC) is to recruit 20 to 30 focused networking Vars to push its switching and hub products.

The company is attempting to shift focus away from its traditional adaptor market towards workgroup switching and 100Mbps technology.

SMC claimed about 25 per cent of its turnover is in the hub and switching product areas and said it needs to move this to a 50 per cent adaptor 50 per cent hubs and switches model.

The vendor has also announced it is to launch a customer satisfaction guarantee scheme in Europe over the next two months The scheme was first set up in the US six months ago and includes 24-hour support and a money-back guarantee.

Lyn Jeffery, SMC international sales director, said in order to achieve this aim the firm needed to focus at reseller level and provide them with good quality leads.

'We need about 20 to 30 dealers as soon as possible that are prepared to focus their selling efforts on SMC products,' she said.

'We will be working closely with our distributors to identify those key resellers that will be a good conduit for user leads.'
