3Com signs up Rocom
Traditional voice distributor joins as second UK supplier for NBX product
In a bid to gain a stronger foothold in the converged voice and data market, 3Com has signed up traditional voice distributor Rocom as a second supplier for its NBX product in the UK.
But some traditional data distributors are disappointed with 3Com's decision because they hoped to be able to sell the much sought-after SME-focused product.
Kevin Vine, director of networking services at distributor Ingram Micro, said Ingram wanted to sell it but understood 3Com's decision.
"3Com already works with Westcon on the data side selling the NBX product, so Rocom will give it a foot in both camps," he said.
Buddie Ceronie, 3Com's UK head, said: "This is proof that the voice and data channels are coming together."
Mark Davenport, sales director at 3Com reseller Starwand Computers, said: "With more competition at the distribution level, resellers could benefit from lower prices.
"However, if more telephony resellers get the product through Rocom it may not be so good for data resellers."
