Codian goes Face To Face with acquisition

Videoconferencing vendor buys Australian vendor for undisclosed sum

Videoconferencing (VC) infrastructure vendor Codian has acquired Australian-based VC software developer Face To Face Software for an undisclosed sum.

David Holloway, chief executive of Codian, told CRN: “We’ve worked with the team at Face To Face for nearly three years. They develop applications that run alongside Codian products. We’d been considering forming an OEM partnership with them but then decided it would be a better arrangement for them to join Codian.”

The team from Face To Face is based in Sydney and will join up with Codian’s existing Australian sales and support staff to form Codian Australia. Under the terms of the deal, a multi- multi-point control unit (MCU) scheduling package developed by Face To Face will form the basis of a new Codian Management Platform.

“In some larger installs, customers want to schedule about 10,000 conferences in one day; the new multi-MCU scheduling product from Face To Face will enable Codian products to scale-up to meet that kind of demand,” Holloway said. “Previously our resellers would have had to use a product from a third-party to scale-up. The acquisition gives us a stronger product line.”

Codian appointed ReView Video as its sole UK distributor in November to handle SME-focused resellers, while Codian deals directly with VARs Ccomm, Direct Visual, Focus 21, nuVideo, Niad Communications, Videonations and Wire One Communications, who target the larger scale projects.

David Underdown, sales director at ReView Video, said: “The interest in Codian’s products since we became its distributor has been very healthy. If the acquisition enhances what is already a great product line-up then that can only be a good thing.”
