Digital Signage lifted by lucrative contracts

Start-up secures contracts with retailers for installation of digital notice board network

Shopping smart: Somerfield is the first Digital Signage customer customer to install Info Channel.

Digital Signage UK has landed three multimillion-pound deals following its formation six months ago.

Set up by a range of digital signage experts, the firm is positioning itself as a one-stop shop for digital signage.

Darren Michaels, director of production at Digital Signage UK, said: 'We see ourselves as a total digital signage solution provider. We have invested in our own software and can provide everything from system design, installation and support services, to creative design, content management and production, as well as revenue generation, sales and marketing.

'We also hope VARs will see us as a pick'n'mix-type operation. For example, an audiovisual VAR might be able to provide a customer with screens and a content management system for a digital signage project, but could then come to us to provide the actual content.'

Digital Signage UK has secured contracts with retail chains Somerfield, Instore and Wilkinson to provide an in-store network of digital notice boards created by Digital Signage called Info Channel.
Somerfield will be the first of the three chains to have the system installed.

'By January we hope to have completed 250 installations and will then ramp up the rollout after that,' said Michaels.

Simon Birkenhead, sales and marketing manager for vendor 3M's digital signage and optical systems, said: 'There are lots of firms that claim to be total digital signage solution providers. It is a very competitive market and a lot of these start-ups won't survive because they are too small to compete with the bigger players.

'However, we welcome additional specialists that can add value and credibility to the industry.'
