Transoft seeks Vars for legacy boom

Middleware vendor Transoft is on the hunt for resellers to take advantage of a predicted rise in demand for legacy-integrated applications after the millennium.
Transoft is seeking additional resellers, ISVs and systems integrators to join its 150-strong worldwide base for its Transoft Component Framework (TCF) architecture.
The company claims the software cuts the development time of applications using modern technologies, by allowing integration with existing legacy applications.
Mike Edwards, chairman of Transoft, said: "We saw the trend for businesses to re-engineer their systems, but in recent years there has been a complete turnaround. The pressure is on to develop web applications quickly, but businesses can't afford to spend four years in development so they need to build on legacy systems."
Geoff Baker, development director at Transoft, said resellers and ISVs had the opportunity to update their applications to allow the modern GUI front-end applications written in Visual Basic or C++ to access data housed in legacy systems running on Cobol or Basic. "Resellers have functionally rich applications, but the upstart businesses using VB will win because their applications simply look better. We offer a way around this by building a bridge between the two," he said.
Baker said a significant number of existing resellers had taken TCF, but added Transoft was looking to broaden its market by looking for resellers outside its traditional niche markets, which include accountancy software vendors such as Systems Union, Sage and Tetra.
Transoft acquired US Cobol migration software specialist EasiRun in July this year, allowing it to expand beyond its existing range of Data General applications.
