Microsoft acquires DesktopStandard

Firm will operate as a wholly owned subsidiary of software giant

Microsoft has acquired group policy-based enterprise desktop management vendor the DesktopStandard Corporation, for an undisclosed sum.

The software behemoth claimed the acquisition demonstrates its commitment to help end users leverage policy-based management technology and maximise the value of investments in Microsoft's Active Directory software.

Larry Orecklin, general manager of Microsoft's Windows enterprise management division, said in a statement: "It's hard to find a dissatisfied DesktopStandard customer.

"Through this acquisition, we plan to enhance group policy and make desktop management easier, so our customers can achieve a higher level of agility and business value," he said.

Under the terms of the acquisition, DesktopStandard will operate as a wholly owned subsidiary of Microsoft, while the vendor's technology is transitioned over to Microsoft.

Eric Voskuil, chief technology officer at DesktopStandard, said: "Customers will benefit now and into the future as our innovative team joins Microsoft in building the future of model-based management technologies."
