Three steal a lead on MPS vendors
IDC analysis shows three brands out in front of vendor managed print services offerings
Managed print services (MPS) programmes from the likes of HP, Xerox and Ricoh may pull ahead of rival schemes, according to a global study of the emerging market.
IDC’s MarketScape: Worldwide Managed Print Services 2010 Hardcopy Vendor Analysis singled out Xerox, HP and Ricoh/IKON as leaders in MPS, due to their robust, scalable portfolios and well-defined go-to-market strategies for growth.
Michael Orasin, hardcopy software and services research manager at IDC, said the growth of print services will continue to escalate as companies realise the potential cost savings.
“MPS is a game-changing trend that will have a significant impact on the hardcopy market well into the future,” Orasin said.
“Most vendors are either investing in services they have had for several years or, seeing the adoption trend, initiating competitive programmes to stay relevant.”
IDC said HP stood out for its manageable hardware and outsourcing capabilities, and Xerox for its extensive and adaptable delivery infrastructure and integrated suite. Ricoh/IKON was praised for its deep expertise in managed services.
Andy Jones, services head at Xerox, said: “Our MPS does what it says on the tin. This is a delivery game, not a game of hardware features and functions. It provides our customers with maximum availability and usage for minimal cost.”
IDC said MPS offerings consistent across enterprise and SMB customers, with an ability to harness cloud computing, will excel.
There will be a growing need for vendors that offer proactive monitoring and support for heterogeneous environments, financing and integrated billing or dispatch, and for vendors able to reduce delivery costs and expand beyond fleet management and optimisation.
