ClearCube hails OEM contract with VMware
Vendors claim latest agreement will reduce costs and provide more versatile offerings
Blade computing specialist ClearCube Technology has claimed its latest OEM agreement with virtualisation specialist VMware will benefit both sets of channel partners.
The two firms last week signed an agreement which saw ClearCube’s PC blade software certified for VMware’s Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI).
Paul Dunford, director of European partnerships and alliances at ClearCube, said: “With many firms there are three main problems with desktop PCs: first, there is the manageability aspect – for example if a company has remote offices, the PCs can be expensive to service and maintain; second, there is the security aspect where expensive data can be accessed and stolen from the PC; and third is the ergonomic problem – quite often PCs are in locations where it is not appropriate for engineers to be traipsing in and out.”
Dunford said the price of a blade PC has been a stumbling block for many firms in the past, but because of the deal with VMware, a number of users can be put on a single blade PC, which can bring the cost right down.
“This in turn allows resellers to add real value to deals and also to get better margins than they would in a traditional hardware sale,” he added.
Stephen Cooke, business development manager, blade group and managed services at ClearCube VAR BSG, said the product appeals to all sized firms, from enterprises to SMEs.
“The industry is happy with virtualisation at server level and more and more firms are asking how they do this at a desktop level,” he added. “This OEM deal enables us to sell solutions rather than tin to our customers and tailor the product to individual users’ needs. Many of them have tried using thin client offerings in the past, but it has never given them the right PC experience.”
