IronPort's Reputation gives resellers a boost

Vendor has high hopes for its latest technology

Email security vendor IronPort Systems is confident that its latest URL tracking technology will help VARs to boost business.

The vendor has claimed its Web Reputation technology, which integrates with IronPort anti-spam, is the only product to use both email sender reputation data and URL reputation data to fight spam, viruses, phishing and spyware threats.

The technology, which is incorporated in IronPort’s SenderBase network, works by identifying the reputation of a URL in an email. It then gives the email a granular score of between -10 and +10, which allows the end-user to deal with malware ambiguities, according to the vendor.

Tom Gillis, worldwide marketing director at IronPort, said: “The value proposition is simple. It makes the sales process straightforward, which is very important for partners.”

Matt Peachey, regional director northern Europe at IronPort, said the channel has an important role to play in IronPort’s future, and that the vendor will be working closely with its distributors InTechnology and Sphinx.

“We are growing by about 100 per cent annually and the channel plays a big part in that. When we launched in the UK we had low-entry barriers, despite being selective about our partners. We have already launched our new partner programme this month, and are nudging up the bar in terms of accreditation levels,” he said.

Nick Garlick, managing director of VAR Nebulas Systems, said: “The nature of spam attacks is changing, and this is the next tool to address the methods that spammers use. It is critical that a firm using email has this sort of protection. IronPort is the first in the market to offer this technology. I think we will be very successful to market. We are already seeing interest from a lot of customers.”
