Easynet hits carbon neutral goal

ISP urges channel to go green

Easynet is encouraging its channel partners to become greener following the ISP’s own milestone of becoming carbon neutral 10 months ago.

Alan Ryan, European alliance director at Easynet, told CRN: “Questions about the environment are appearing more in tenders and we believe it will soon be a requirement to provide green credentials in a bid.”

Easynet is asking its existing and new partners what they are doing to reduce their own carbon footprint.

“While we wouldn’t cease working with a partner if they were not interested in becoming green, we may offer discounts or incentives to those who are becoming greener,” he added.

Rival ISP Griffin Internet said it is doing as much as it can to reduce its carbon footprint. Andrew Dickinson, sales and marketing director at Griffin, said: “We buy IP components and package them for the channel. We recognise our responsibility in choosing suppliers that have green policies. Our biggest supplier has won awards for sustainability and we have switched energy suppliers to one that is working to reduce its carbon footprint.”
