Data Domain channel director jumps ship

Storwize bags former Data Domain director amid takeover battle for deduplication vendor

It's goodbye to Data Domain and hello Storwize for Cordero

Data Domain's senior director of worldwide channel sales has jumped ship to Storwize as EMC and NetApp's bidding war for the deduplication outfit heats up.

Bill Cordero has joined capacity optimisation and data reduction vendor Storwize as vice president of worldwide channel sales, reportedly leaving Data Domain just days before NetApp declared an interest to acquire the firm.

On his new appointment Cordero said: “I am excited by this opportunity and there could be no better time to be joining Storwize. The same organisations that have been rapidly adopting deduplication technology for backup are looking to reduce costs across all tiers of storage including primary and secondary.

“Storwize real-time capacity optimisation solutions create a unique and compelling ROI for customers and create an enormous opportunity for channel partners looking to help their customers reduce costs.”

During his time at Data Domain, Cordero was responsible for developing global sales, which grew to more than $200m (£121.5m) in five years.

Cordero will report to Tom Gallivan, senior vice president of worldwide sales, who said: “We are delighted to add an executive with Bill’s track record of building and managing global channel organisations.

“Channels are a critical part of our growth strategy, enabling us to meet the demands of a rapidly growing market, while creating tremendous opportunity for our strategic partners.”

Prior to Data Domain, Cordero held senior sales and channel management roles at McData, VA Software and NetScreen.

In related news Data Domain’s board of directors have rejected EMC’s $1.8bn (£1.1bn) offer to acquire the company, and have recommended to stockholders that they accept NetApp’s $1.9bn bid.
