Varlink celebrates 2009 success

Distributor bucks the recession to post an increase in profit and turnover

Mike Pullon: Growth has been driven by strong reseller recruitment

Specialist distributor Varlink has capped a year of growth by posting an 81 per cent increase in net profit.

The mobile computing and data capture distributor’s financial year ended on 31 August with a turnover of £7.02m, compared to £5.45m in 2008. Net profit stood at £216,586 for year end 2009, compared to £119,486 in 2008.

Mike Pullon, chief executive of Varlink, said every aspect of the business had performed well.

“Our core mobile computer brands have all performed well and have featured in a number of larger projects won by our resellers. Psion, Teklogix, Opticon, Datalogic, Pidion, Janam and Trimble have all introduced new terminals during the past year which have been well received by the end users who buy from our customers,” he said.

“We have added functionality to our e-commerce sites, offered flexibility in the provision of credit and have increased our inventory levels so that the quality of our basic distributor services increased in line with the expectations of the reseller community that we work with. Growth has been driven by strong reseller recruitment and by increased levels of business from our existing customers,” he added.

Pullon said the distributor’s launch of its EPoS Distributor division in the summer has also boosted growth and that reseller recruitment in the space was going strong.
