Northamber posts profit
Distributor sees revenue rise slightly despite 'price deflation'
Despite a tough period for the distribution industry, Northamber has managed to buck the trend and announce an increase in profits.
The distributor posted an 18.5 per cent increase in pre-tax profits to £2.6m for the year ended 30 June, compared to £2.2m in 2004.
Turnover was slightly up at £236.3m compared to £232.8m the previous year, despite what the distributor described as "continuing levels of significant price deflation on products".
In a statement David Phillips, chairman of Northamber, said: "It is widely understood that July and August trading was extremely weak across our entire sector. September has started in-line with our expectations, albeit with pressure on margins arising from ongoing price deflation.
"Subject to the state of the economy as a whole and our own performance within our chosen sector, the Board is confident in the outcome for the new trading year."
