Channel dominates EMEA enterprise telephony line provision
Sector has seen an increase in shipments in Q2 of this year
The channel is delivering the vast majority of the enterprise telephony lines in EMEA, a sector which has seen an increase in shipments in the second quarter this year, according to analyst Canalys.
Line shipments for Q2 2006 increased by 6.4 per cent year on year to 5.4 million, bringing the total for the first half of the year to 10.8 million.
Canalys estimated that indirect channels, including resellers, service providers and system integrators, installed 87 per cent of line shipments in the quarter.
Matthew Bell, analyst at Canalys, said Alcatel was the leading Q2 vendor in terms of market share, followed by Siemens, Nortel, Avaya and then Aastra.
“Alcatel is now seeing the benefits because it capitalises on growing levels of investment in telecommunications,” Bell said. “Its strong growth in central and eastern Europe outweighed a decline in western Europe.
“Just outside the top five vendors, Ericsson and Panasonic remain narrowly ahead of Cisco, which closed the gap with another strong quarter.”
Bell added that vendor Mitel was the rising star among the top 10 vendors, recording its best quarter in EMEA and posting year-on-year growth of 50 per cent.
Graeme Allan, country director for UK and Ireland at Alcatel’s enterprise division, said: “Alcatel continues to maintain its number-one position due to the combination of a full convergent portfolio along with its endorsement of a 100-per-cent indirect sales model.”
Allan added that sales of Alctael’s OmniPCX Enterprise product in the UK continue to rise as a result of strong contact centre and collaboration solutions sales.
“The combination of our IP/time division multiplexing hybrid offering and our supporting applications has aided our overall growth,” he said.
