GE Capital boss lost and found

John Casson has resigned as UK joint managing director of US giant GE Capital IT Solutions (GECITS), but is to work alongside his co-MD and his newly appointed successor until the end of the month.

Casson, who shared UK MD responsibilities with Michael Brecht, resigned on 27 February. According to sources, he was playing a central role in integrating the recently acquired P&P reseller business into GE. His resignation has raised fresh doubts about the stability of the operation (PC Dealer, 14 January).

A GE representative confirmed that Casson will leave at the end of this month, but said no reason was given for his resignation.

Casson's successor - Dr Erwin Schmeitow from GECITS' Essen, Germany operation - took on his new role on 2 March - the Monday after Casson resigned.

Until Casson leaves, the UK arm will have three MDs.

Casson's resignation is the latest key personnel problem to hit the company.

The UK and European operations were without CEOs for a period last year, and there was a perception that the situation delayed the P&P deal, which was finally completed in January. Jeremy Golding was appointed to the UK position in November.

Casson, Golding and Brecht were all unavailable for comment.
