Philips reseller seals worldwide BrightSign deal

MMD to combine BrightSign with Philips kit in offerings with broad appeal

MMD is global reseller for Philips commercial displays

US-based audiovisual reseller MMD has signed a global deal to distribute digital signage software and digital players from Roku signage division BrightSign.

According to BrightSign, the new partnership with global Philips commercial displays reseller MMD will broaden the availability of digital signage solutions to integrators and other resellers. BrightSign digital controllers will complement its big-screen kit.

Jeff Hastings, chief executive at BrightSign, said the partnership with MMD will be instrumental in creating applications such as panoramic video walls.

“By using BrightSign solid-state digital signage controllers to drive HD displays, content developers can provide their customers with signage solutions that are more affordable than PC-based solutions,” Hastings said.

The controllers are expected to be more reliable because they do not rely, like a PC, on a hard drive with moving parts that can fail. They also require less power to run than PC-based systems, according to Hastings.

Craig Ratbun, US sales and marketing director at MMD, said analyst company DisplaySearch had said that markets want low-cost signage solutions that are easy to use, but offer quality and reliability.

“Through our partnership with BrightSign, we offer a unique solution for these markets that brings together the Philips Smart Insert concept, the aesthetic design of the latest slim Philips displays and the benefits of BrightSign small form factor players with their solid-state platforms,” Ratbun said.

MMD claims to be the exclusive marketer and reseller for Philips-brand LCD monitors and public signage globally. Combined Philips-BrightSign offerings also promise easy upgrades, according to BrightSign.
