Videonations and Fujitsu direct London traffic
Firms build video wall that will combine thousands of video and data feeds on one central display
Video walls are increasing in popularity in certain niches
Audiovisual integrator Videonations and service provider Fujitsu Services have installed a freestanding 4x3 video wall for Transport for London’s (TFL’s) new control centre.
Richard Madden, specialist AV projects manager at Videonations, said the video wall physically dominates its location, while being critical in the centre’s daily operation.
“The challenge was to design a solution that combined a central showpiece as well as a fully functional multi-team control display,” he said. “So impressive is the giant canvas that local news teams are regularly using it as a backdrop for their live reports.”
The Surface Transport and Traffic Operations Centre manages TFL’s road and bus network, keeping resources co-ordinated efficiently.
The project took four months. Videonations installed and equipped four dedicated training and situation suites with a range of interactive technology and large LCDs as well. Fujitsu Services is the incumbent IP data management provider.
The 4x3 multi-faceted video wall comprises nine NECultra-thin bezel LCDs mounted on a custom-designed, free-standing structure. It projects live CCTV footage, video and PC content via a Dexon Video Wall processor that selects from thousands of feeds making up London’s traffic network.
