CA falls £20m short

Computer Associates (CA) has missed its second-quarter guidance by about £20m. CA posted profits of $41m and turnover of $942m for the period ended 30 September. Chief executive John Swainson said CA was pleased with the results.

Blu-ray changes boost Sony

Industry experts believe that Hewlett-Packard’s insistence on changes to the Blu-ray specification will boost Sony’s technology in its battle against Toshiba’s HD-DVD system by removing Microsoft’s and Intel’s objections to Blu-ray.

QLogic to drive Troika

QLogic has acquired acceleration technology vendor Troika Networks for $36.5m. Troika’s technology will now be integrated into entry-level and mid-range QLogic virtualisation platforms that host OEM and ISV software solutions.

LapiStor bought out

Senior executives at data storage vendor LapiStor have completed a management buy-out (MBO) of the firm. The MBO was led by managing director Tony Howard and technical director Andrew Double. Howard said he expected the MBO to lead to faster decision making and a more motivated management team.

Voicenet feels Blue

Voice over IP (VoIP) provider Voicenet Solutions has incorporated Goodman Blue’s software into its VoIP Softswitch technology to entice resellers to increase business. The firms have claimed the new technology will enhance the speed with which resellers can solve end-user VoIP issues.

EACS hits Platinum mark

Tandberg Data channel partner EACS has been awarded Platinum Partner status under the vendor’s storage partner programme. The programme includes companies of all sizes.

Novelty notebook

Averatec has claimed its new notebook is a departure from the traditional black and grey notebooks that dominate the market. The ‘glacier white’ 3715 includes wireless LAN, multi-format DVD burner and an AMD Sempron 3000+processor as standard, the vendor said.
