Omtool serves up fax appetiser for resellers

High-end fax server software vendor Omtool is seeking Microsoft certified professional Vars following the launch of Fax Sr version 2.

Craig Randall, marketing vice president at Omtool, said: ?Version 2 would appeal to resellers that are offering communications solutions and to Vars that are supplying PCs to office departments.?

Fax Sr Version 2 runs on Windows NT, VMS and Unix. It is priced at #3,200 for an unlimited server licence and #1,575 for a 25-user licence.

One problem resellers have faced when selling fax server software has been proving the cost-saving benefit to the customer. But Randall said features like least-cost routing, which routes faxes across private Wans, would make it easier for Vars to sell the benefits of reduced cost of ownership. He added that Fax Sr eliminated the need to have modems and phone lines on the desktop, further reducing costs.

?We concentrate on automated faxing,? said Randall. ?But the package integrates with email and internet software.?

Under the emerging Universal In-box standard, high-end fax servers will integrate with MS Exchange, Lotus Notes and Netscape Navigator.

Omtool is distributed in the UK through Integrated Solutions, SDX and Essential. Randall said that the company was not making any changes to its distribution line-up as it wanted to ensure its product were not over-distributed.
