PC market sees Epson's return

Epson's return to the UK PC market began in earnest last week, six months after it signed Congleton-based Mitek group as its exclusive distributor.

Mitek will deal directly with Epson Italia after Epson UK decided not to handle PCs.

Epson Italia, which is running the European PC operation for the peripherals giant, decided not to go for a broadline distribution model for its relaunch, three years after the Seiko-owned company was forced out of the UK.

Malcolm Roach, MD at Mitek, said: 'It's an exclusive contract between us and Epson Italia. Epson UK distributors are not involved. We've gone for a traditional type of dealer network. We have around 160 interested dealers, most of which are software developers.'

The move comes ahead of a fileserver and notebook launch by the manufacturer which is expected within the next month.
