Jones to take on 'hatchet' job

Former Digital Systems general manager and UK general manager Richard Jones has left his European position at Digital Systems to take up a wider business planning role for the manufacturer.

Jones left the UK to begin work at Digital's Geneva headquarters earlier this year. Sources said Jones was disappointed to leave the UK operation.

One said: 'He has gone to some sort of cost-cutting role, so you could call him a hatchet man. I have heard he has not been very happy since leaving the UK but this might suit him.'

A Digital representative said Jones will introduce a cost structure to the European arm, similar to the one he implemented in the UK.

Jones took on the country manager position in 1995 when Shoaib Quraeshi left the firm.

PC Dealer revealed Chris Conway became UK country manager three months ago. His appointment followed the departures of computer systems VP Enrico Pesatori and European PC VP Wim Elphrink (PC Dealer, 17 July), which prompted a senior management reshuffle at the company.
