EMC clears skies for service providers
Vendor claims strength of Atmos is based on its service provider partners after ending direct sales of cloud-based storage service
EMC said its partners are better suited to delivering its cloud-based storage technology
EMC has stopped offering its cloud-based storage service directly, claiming its service providers are better suited to delivering the product.
In a statement, EMC said, with the number of service providers offering Atmos rising, it had decided to focus its efforts on supporting the development and delivery of the product via the channel.
“The strength of the Atmos ecosystem is based on service providers who deliver Atmos-based services and integrate with the technology,” it said.
“EMC will leverage Atmos as a developer environment where [the company] helps ISVs and developers integrate the technology, [and] accelerate the delivery of their solutions across Atmos-based service providers.”
Clive Longbottom, service director at Quocirca, said partners should welcome the shift in strategy.
“EMC can focus on what it should be focusing on, which is providing storage systems and peripheral software that the channel can build on,” he said.
