Explorer reveals flaw
A newly discovered flaw in Internet Explorer could allow hackers to take “complete control” of compromised systems, according to a Microsoft security advisory. The flaw, uncovered by security service vendor SEC Consult, is in an interface to a debugger in the Microsoft Java Virtual Machine.
Crossbeam names partners
Network provider Crossbeam Systems has signed Asptech, IDS Indata and System Software as channel partners. The three firms have joined the Crossbeam Authorised Partner Programme, and they will target medium-sized enterprises as well as the remote sites of larger organisations with Crossbeam’s C-Series unified threat management product.
Imation tape storage
Removable media data storage vendor Imation has unveiled its Super DLT tape II cartridge. The tape provides 600GB of compressed storage capacity and enables a 72MB transfer rate. The vendor claimed the product will appeal to businesses with networks and data centres that need to manage and store vast amounts of data.
Zycko jumps at Televaulting
Backup and recovery software vendor Asigra has signed a distribution deal with Zycko. The vendor’s Televaulting software is an agentless backup offering with pay-as-you-grow pricing. Zycko will distribute the product in the Americas, Europe, Australia, Asia and Africa.
WatchGuard training
Wick Hill is holding the first WatchGuard accredited technical training courses in this country for the WatchGuard Firewall Peak and WatchGuard FirewarePro. Attendees will learn how to install, configure and manage the WatchGuard products. Courses run throughout July, August and September.
Bishop boost for Microsoft
Microsoft has appointed Matthew Bishop as developer and platform evangelism director in the UK. Bishop was previously senior director of government at Microsoft EMEA. John O’Hara has also joined Microsoft as general manager of its Enterprise and Partner Group.
