GoFlex set for B2B move
Seagate suggests latest consumer offering could eventually be rolled out to its B2B channel
Changing tracks: Seagate has said GoFlex could undergo a change of channel in the future
Hard drive vendor Seagate has hinted that its GoFlex consumer product line will be made available to its business-to-business (B2B) channel partners in future.
The range is an extension of the vendor’s FreeAgent external hard drive family which boasts multiple device interoperability through the use of interchangeable cables and desktop adapters.
Seagate said the products will be “initially available” through high street and online retailers, including Currys, Maplin, PC World and Amazon.
However, Matthew Yarrow, executive director of Seagate Branded Solutions, EMEA, said the firm is open to the possibility of making the range available to its B2B channel.
“The plan is to extend the product’s distribution on the consumer side, but it also has a part to play in our B2B channel,” he said.
Yarrow said the products would suit VARs with an SME customer base and that the feature set could be tweaked to make them more appealing to business users.
“The fact that some members of the range can be upgraded easily to USB 3.0 or eSATA should appeal to B2B customers,” he added.
James Ward, managing director of Hammer, said “Demand for storage with high capacities and niche features will persist.”
