BlueSky seeks new horizons
Firm ponders channel strategy for mobile offering
BlueSky has built its ProSurvey Wireless LAN site survey software into a mobile hardware platform, and is offering the product as a mobile access point.
The vendor has used a number of resellers for its ProSurvey range, and is considering using the channel for its hardware.
Its latest ProSurvey Wireless Platform and the Universal Wireless Platform sport batteries for powering the radio element and a laptop, PDA or mobile phone for up to 16 hours.
"We've had ProSurvey for some time, but this is the first time we have built this sort of product," said David Callender, marketing manager at BlueSky. "The platform has been developed over the past 12 months, and we realised that it would make a good mobile platform as well."
Tony Crabtree, principal analyst at Juniper Research, said take-up of Wi-Fi hotspots has been "disappointing", but the technology looks to be gathering momentum in the business space.
"The pricing model is too high for consumers, but the idea of temporary hotspots for exhibitions or conferences is encouraging," he said.
