Compaq hit by server fervour
Compaq has introduced four ProLiant servers as the PC manufacturer expands its enterprise and workstation product range.
As part of the overhaul of its ProLiant range, the 5500, 3000, 1600 and 1200 are being shipped. All four servers come with high-availability features designed to eliminate planned and unplanned downtime. They include Hot Plug drives that can be replaced without powering down the server, Hot Plug redundant power supplies that can be changed without interrupting service, redundant cooling fans, redundant NICs and a three-year pre-failure warranty on processors, memory and hard drives.
Hugh Jenksins, enterprise group product manager at Compaq, said: 'As customers distribute dedicated computing resources at various levels and locations, they are demanding versatility and high-availability features which are typically reserved for the largest enterprise.'
The servers start at #1,995 rising to #6,580. Compaq's existing models will be reduced by between four and seven per cent.
