Adobe makes expansion plans

Adobe promises channel plans after Macromedia acquisition

Imaging software vendor Adobe has promised its channel partners opportunities to expand into new markets following its $3.4bn acquisition of vendor Macromedia.

The combined company will be called Adobe Systems Incorporated, and Bruce Chizen will remain as the chief executive.

Alex Tatham, commercial director at Bell Microproducts, said: "This is an excellent acquisition. Both Adobe and Macromedia's products are bought by the same kind of person. However, product and channel partner rationalisation is likely to follow."

However, Richard Love, marketing director at Computers Unlimited, disagreed: "Most of the products of both firms sit in different spaces. I'm not expecting any channel partner rationalisation."
