Misco to launch installation service
Just a week after Comet announces its service Misco follows suit
VAR Misco is set to follow in the footsteps of PC World and Comet by launching a PC and laptop installation service for consumers, CRN has learnt.
Backed by 200 Misco engineers, ‘Home Installs’ will be pitched mainly to consumers struggling to set up wireless routers and will be sold on Misco’s website.
The new service will undergo its soft launch later this week, with the full launch scheduled for next week.
Mike Gammie, IT services development manager at Misco, admitted the service would closely mirror PC World’s TechGuys (CRN, 11 September) and Comet’s on Call service (CRN, 2 April).
“We sell a lot of wireless routers and from a technical perspective many people have problems with them and are happy to pay for installation,” he explained.
“Comet and PC World have both done this and we need to be seen as moving with them.”
Gammie said consumers would be charged about £63 for an engineer to set up their PC or laptop and attach it to any relevant devices around the house.
“We’ve seen some research showing that around 15 per cent of consumers would want this kind of services at £80,” added Gammie.
