Apple iPad sales top three million

Vendor shatters another barrier 80 days after US launch

Roll out: Apple plans to launch the iPad in nine more countries within the next month

Apple has announced that three million iPads have been sold within three months of the tablet computing device going on sale in the US.

The figures suggest that the iPad will smash the sales forecast proffered by market watcher iSuppli in April, who predicted the product would sell just over seven million units during 2010.

To ensure the iPad’s sales momentum continues, the vendor has revealed that it is set to roll out the product to nine more countries within the next month.

Steve Jobs, chief executive of Apple, said: “People are loving the iPad as it becomes a part of their daily lives.

“We are working hard to get this magical product into the hands of even more people around the world.”
