Ideal replaces its lost staff

Distributor starts to replace the staff it lost to rival Clarity

Distributor Ideal Hardware has started its recruitment process to plug the gap left by staff defecting to rival distributor Clarity Technology.

CRN recently reported that Mark Walker, director of open storage products at Ideal Hardware, had resigned and that up to nine other employees had also left the firm, following Clarity’s drive to expand further into the storage space (CRN, 15 May).

Graeme Watt, president of Ideal’s parent company Bell Microproducts Europe, told CRN: “We had to restructure internally for a while and it took up a lot of senior management time. Clarity did pinch a number of staff from us and we will look to actively replace them, either by moving internal staff from other positions or by recruiting from external sources.”

Watt added that Walker had not yet been replaced, and said that it was also “looking for a storage business unit manager”.

Nigel Ghent, marketing director for the UK and Ireland at EMC, a vendor partner of both Ideal and Clarity, said: “It’s an issue for Ideal, but these things tend to balance themselves out.”

However, a source close to Ideal said: “Ideal has been going through some serious and difficult restructuring of late. I am sure its staff losses did affect it badly.”
