Wick Hill pushes WatchGuard at Cisco resellers
Security distributor unveils trade-in programme for discontinued Cisco PIX appliances
Kilpatrick: users want a single appliance solution
Security distributor Wick Hill has launched a trade-in programme for resellers and end users seeking a migration path for the discontinued range of Cisco PIX security appliances.
The distributor is claiming one of its vendor partners, unified threat management (UTM) vendor WatchGuard, is the best alternative, and is offering resellers trade-in options ranging from a 25 per cent discount to a free box with selected UTM bundles.
Wick Hill claimed WatchGuard’s Firebox X UTM product offers "superior flexibility and upgradeability" to Cisco’s ASA 5500 series replacement security appliance product.
Ian Kilpatrick, chairman Wick Hill Group, said: “With some of the lower end Cisco appliances, if you want to add extra security functionality you actually have to buy an additional appliance! In a UTM world, we believe that users want a single appliance solution.”
He added: “With the WatchGuard Firebox, you buy what you need at the time and can add all the extra security functionality you want by simply upgrading the licence. Scalability was highlighted as important by 74 per cent of the respondents in the recent National Gateway Security Survey 20081.”
