CU joins Fujifilm for Mac attack
Imaging company Fujifilm has signed Computers Unlimited (CU) to break into the Macintosh market prior to signing a broadline distributor after Christmas.
The digital camera, scanner and printer vendor is building a computer sales channel to add to the base of direct photographic outlets it already uses.
Three weeks ago PC Dealer revealed the vendor was looking for distributors. It aims to sign either CHS Electronics, Frontline, Ingram Micro or Northamber.
According to Geoff Hawkes, business developer manager at Fujifilm's digital imaging business group, CU has been appointed so the vendor can reach the Apple reseller channel. 'They are predominantly in the Mac and imaging markets so it's a logical choice for cross-platform sales,' he said.
Hawkes said CU is aware Fujifilm aims to add a broadline wholesaler to its indirect channel to cover the mass market for PC dealers. 'We also will bring in a company for the retail market.'
Fujifilm hopes dealers will view the company's products as image capture peripherals, offering high margins and selling to markets including estate agents and even the police.
