Veritas and ADIC join product forces

Vendors launch specialised software bundle for SMEs

Storage vendors ADIC and Veritas aim to use their combined channels to take market share in the SME sector with a product bundle launched last week.

The specialised bundle combines ADIC's Scalar 24 automated tape library, which supports Linear Tape Open and Super Digital Linear Tape media, and Veritas's Backup Exec 9.1 backup management software for Windows. It will be available from distributors Hammer and Ideal until the end of this year.

Christo Conidaris, ADIC's regional director, highlighted the importance of the two firms sharing the same sales channels, claiming it allowed them to help each other reach new customers.

He believes SMEs want an easy-to-use, scalable backup offering that can be upgraded to iSCSI or Fibre Channel SAN components through ADIC's storage network connector as their storage needs grow.

"Customers [in this market] don't have time for technical bits and pieces. They are looking for a one-stop solution where everything is certified," he said.

Matt Charles, business development manager for tape solutions at Hammer, said exact pricing varies from reseller to reseller and according to volumes. But he added that the package will help the distributor attract new business and target existing ADIC and Veritas resellers.

"We are looking to sell this solution to resellers that may not usually carry it, and those that have stood off it for price reasons," he said.

Separately, Veritas has announced it will acquire email archiving firm KVault Software in a $225m deal. It will enable Veritas to offer solutions that address regulatory compliance issues.
