Key Mac personnel swap companies
Apple?s former indirect sales manager, Ed Ewing, has joined Frontline?s Macintosh division only to discover his intended boss, Julian Klein is moving to Apple.
In a bizarre turn of events, Klein will take up the post as channel sales director at Apple UK from the end of September. This follows his promotion to commercial director at Frontline, which took place at the beginning of the year.
A Frontline representative denied the swap between Klein and Ewing was a premeditated move. ?It is a coincidence that it happened at the same time. They will not be moving at the same time,? he said.
A representative for Apple said: ?Although it seems strange, this industry is by its nature small with some well-known faces within it.?
Ewing was tipped to take the role of Frontline?s Mac general manager four months ago (PC Dealer, 30 August).
But the position ? which has been vacant since the beginning of the year ? was only confirmed last week.
A Frontline representative confirmed that the company had been in talks with Ewing since April.
He added that there was no animosity between Apple and the distributor, although he admitted: ?With Apple there was some sensitivity about Ewing moving sooner rather than later.?
