Nikon sounds software piracy alarm
Camera vendor urges end users to purchase software through authorised partners only
Online customers are urged to stick to authorised web sites
Camera vendor Nikon has launched an anti-piracy clampdown against web sites caught selling unauthorised versions of its photo editing software.
In a post on its web site, Nikon said that an unspecified number of web sites have been caught selling unauthorised software and illegal licence keys for several of its products.
They include its photo-editing suites Capture NX and Capture NX 2, and its remote function camera software Camera Control Pro.
The post warns end users that measures have been taken to ensure that unauthorised versions of the vendor’s software cannot be used. It also urges anyone worried that they may have unwittingly purchased unauthorised products to get in touch.
The company also instructs end users to only purchase Nikon products from authorised outlets.
It states: “Nikon recommends purchasing CD package versions [of its software] from stores and/or online retailers authorised to handle Nikon products, or from Nikon's own online store. Nikon does not sell product keys for its software applications from any other e-commerce web site."
