Ingram Micro boosted its move into outsourcing in the US with the creation of a dedicated Global Partner Services division.

Ingram Micro boosted its move into outsourcing in the US with the creation of a dedicated Global Partner Services division.

The unit, to be headed by Michael Terrell, will provide vendors with services including logistics, configuration, assembly and ecommerce.

"Vendors and partners perform many of the same services. Global Partner Services can help eliminate duplication and inefficiencies by balancing the core competencies of Ingram Micro. Strategic alliances with us can help vendors to drive down operational costs and enhance customer service," claimed Terrell.

Ingram also appointed Scott Michaelis general manager for Microsoft's direct retailer distribution and support programme.

There are no plans yet to set up a Global Partner Services division in the UK, a representative said.

SGI has appointed Ingram as its second distributor in north America for Unix servers, workstations and Wintel boxes. GE IT Distribution Group was the only distributor until now. The deal does not extend to the UK.
