BT rings in eight per cent increase

Telecoms giant cites broadband growth as major factor in Q3 success

Telco giant BT has chalked £4.946m in turnover for the third quarter of 2005.

The results are an eight per cent rise in turnover from the same period and a three per cent rise excluding acquisitions. Pre-tax profit was up two per cent to £568m.

Ben Verwaayen, chief executive at BT, said: "We have delivered yet another good set of results in a dynamic business environment. Earnings per share have grown for the fifteenth quarter in a row and the improving trend in underlying EBITDA continues.

"Broadband growth continues to be very strong with the number of BT Wholesale connections now standing at more than seven million. This is pushing the UK to the front of Europe in broadband take up," added Verwaayen.
