IT suppliers missing out in public sector
Intellect claims IT suppliers are often unaware of framework agreements on offer
A large percentage of IT suppliers to the public sector remain unaware of the different framework agreements available to them, and could be missing out on lucrative business as a result, IT trade association Intellect has warned.
The association claimed that to remain competitive, suppliers must consider alternative routes to market. Currently, most channel players find work through GCat, the Government catalogue for IT and Telecoms related goods and services. However, GCat is to be rebranded as Catalist in the near future (CRN, 23 May).
Intellect has created a database listing UK IT public sector framework agreements to help its members.
Nick Kalisperas, director at Intellect, said: “The launch of this database demonstrates our commitment to ensuring that suppliers have the best possible information when identifying routes to markets. The database illustrates the breadth of the opportunities currently available to member companies over and above those which are available through the on-going Catalist procurement.”
“We urge all suppliers and customers to help us to continue to develop this valuable resource by informing us of other framework agreements not covered on the list,” he added.
Mike Williams, public sector sales manager at Misco, said: “Any resellers wanting to work in the public sector should check the Official Journal of the European Union (OJEU, formerly OJEC), regularly. That is what we do – we have a team that checks it. Intellect’s data base is a good idea for those suppliers that aren’t aware of what framework agreements exist outside of Catalist but it would be better if they made it available to everyone – not just their members.”
