Fortify Software claims cloud first

Security vendor claims to be first to market with cloud-ready classification tool for applications

Know the score: Fortify's rating system helps users ascertain which applications can be safely moved to the cloud

Security vendor Fortify Software claims to be the first to market with a labeling system that helps end users ascertain the cloud-readiness of software applications.

The Cloud Readiness Scorecard rates applications from weak to strong depending on the number of major and minor security fixes they require before they can be moved to the cloud.

Brian Chess, founder of Fortify Software said: “The shared nature of the cloud dramatically amplifies the need for software security.”

The scorecard is being added as an additional feature to the vendor’s Fortify 360 and Fortify on Demand offerings. Its ratings are based on the likelihood of the application coming under attack in the cloud and the potential impact that could have.

“The scorecard’s rating is also based on the knowledge we have gained by looking to what processes and patterns hackers have employed in the past to break into applications, which helps us to anticipate potential weak spots,” added Chess.
