Irish market to grow

The Irish information technology market is expected to grow by nearly seven per cent during 1996, according to a report from IDC. Analyst Alison McKenzie said: "In the short to medium-term much of the growth in the market will be driven by the hardware sectors including PCs and workstations, small and medium scale multi-user systems, servers and data communications hardware. However, severe price erosion is expected to continue and will offset the higher shipment growth rates, as will be the case across Europe." A trend towards client/server adoption continues, and the Internet continues to be an important issue. One in five respondent organisations either had a Web server or home page, or were planning to have one by the end of 1997. IDC can be reached on 0181 995 8082.
