Plasmon signs Mitsubishi Kagaku Media contract
Both vendors to promote a new optical storage format
Plasmon has signed an agreement with Mitsubishi Kagaku Media (MKM) to manufacture and promote a new optical storage format.
Both vendors claimed the Ultra Density Optical-Digital Master Disk (UDO-DMD) format is specifically designed for the secure distribution and long-term storage of high-definition (HD) DVD content.
Nigel Street, chief executive of Plasmon, said in a statement: “While UDO-DMD is a new product, it is based on our already well established UDO technology.”
Both vendors also claimed that the management of expanding data on RAID is insecure and costly for data that is stored for many years.
Dr Hidemi Yoshida, chief technology officer at Mitsubishi Kagaku Media, added: “DMD is a professional quality media. It is immune to damage from magnetic field and x-ray exposure, and can be safely stored in a wide range of conditions.”
