Videoconferencing via ISDN for portable PCs and Macs
RSI Systems has announced a new portable visual communications system called Eris, which allows Windows PCs and Macs to use ISDN lines for videoconferencing. The system works with portable computers and functions as a self-contained SCSI or PCMCIA peripheral.
Eris uses AT&T video compression technology. RSI says it is sufficiently powerful in its own right not to need a very high-spec PC for videocommunications, nor does it require additional boards. A complete system with the basic desktop unit with integral speakerphone, colour video camera, cables and software has a starting price of #4,250. Eris is available from RSI distributors, namely Mentec, Pinnacle Communications and Thistle Datacomms.
